Green light for the Green Light Trust

Deb Bunt

With huge thanks to Danny, Delivery Skills Development Coach, at the Green Light Trust project at Martlesham for spending a couple of (chilly) hours with Peter and me yesterday. Danny showed us around Castan Woods, near Kesgrave/Martlesham and explained the work of the GLT. As their mission statement says:

"The Green Light Trust stands for person-centered support, planet-enhancing practices, and fostering progression. We value inclusion, hope, and deep connections to self, people, and nature. Our mission is to empower individuals through the transformative power of nature, promoting well-being, growth, and a sense of belonging for all."

Danny was able to explain how their ethos and objectives aligned with Peter's view of the value of woodlands and nature. Danny also was convinced that Peter's extensive knowledge of all things timber would enhance the experience of the project's participants. Indeed, his enthusiasm was so palpable that you would have had to have had a heart of steel to refuse to be involved. As it happened, of course, Peter needed no coercion and is really pleased to be able to offer his time to volunteer at the GLT and to share his love and knowledge of timber.

It was particularly apposite that Peter remembered that he had done a lot of work in these woods especially after the 1987 hurricanes, and was able to pinpoint certain trees he had felled and, in picture three, reproduce the markings to identify which timber company was involved with which tree.. Danny was agog at the memories this evoked for Peter and hugely excited to have Peter on board to share his knowledge with others.

Thanks to Will at Suffolk Safeguarding Partnership for brokering the introduction.
