Unbelievably it's a year to the day since the padlock was ceremoniously clipped from "Slow Puncture" and it cycled tentatively to join its comrades in the world of books. No one knew what sort of reception it would receive or how far would make it in these uncertain times. But, one year on, in a retrospective glance over our shoulders, we can see that the journey certainly took on some unexpected - and rather delightful - twists and turns.
Reviews
The reviews on Amazon Slow Puncture: Living Well With Dementia and on The Book Guild Ltd's own website have been consistently favourable. We have made it into the alzheimers.org.uk magazine (Not a Slow Puncture in Sight) as well as the East Anglian Daily Times for an article to celebrate World Alzheimer's Month. We have spent time on BBC Radio Suffolk - Lesley Dolphin's virtual couch (and if there has to be a virtual couch upon which to sit, then this is the one I would unreservedly choose). And, of course, there was the memorable interview with BBC - Look East - Presenter Profile - Mike Liggins.
Podcasts
The unexpected bonus of podcasts, including the incomparable Pippa Kelly , the wonderful and award winning Discovering Dementia | A podcast produced and hosted by Penny Bell, the mellow toned, Suffolk based actress Rosanna Miles: Like a Squirrel Gathering Nuts and our friends TheBoldAge has added to the journey. There have been various radio interviews and, of course, the inclusion into AlzAuthors: Alzheimer's and Dementia Books, Blogs, Stories resources, all of which has certainly kept the story moving along. We were also interviewed by Lori La Bey alzheimersspeaks.com and on our anniversary itself we are chatting to Jennifer Fink from Fading Memories podcast.
Libraries Plus
We are in the middle of our #GLT (great library tour) of Suffolk's libraries, we are talking through zoom meetings to social care organisations and financial institutions and we have chatted to students from several UK universities and have been placed on the reading list at University of Bangor. Without Libraries What Have We? We Have No Past And No Future.
There are many others who have taken an interest in the book and in Peter's story. These include:
Special mention also for the wonderful Saxmundham and local community all whom have been supportive and many of whom have overfed us on cake or just, quite simply, been there to make us all smile.
Here's to the next year!
