New Support Group in Saxmundham

A huge thanks to Liz Gleave at Saxmundham Library for initiating and hosting the first new dementia support group yesterday. Liz, Peter, Teresa and I first discussed the idea a few months ago but credit to Liz for having the ooomph to do something about it!

The group will meet monthly in the library and will take its shape from the input of its members. Peter and Teresa's presence and lived experiences will, I'm sure, be of immense value and, even though Teresa appears to be immersed on her mobile phone and I look singularly unimpressed, the truth is we were all taken with the levels of enthusiasm generated at this inaugural meeting.

With literature provided by Innovations in Dementia (thanks to Rachel for sending us so many leaflets!) and attendance by representatives from christiescare.com and volunteers from Suffolk Libraries, there was a lot of energy and good will in the room.

The next meeting will be held on 16th December at 11am in Saxmundham library. Peter and Teresa will give a talk about their own experiences from diagnosis to living well and they will be answering any questions or concerns others may have. This forum is for anyone living with dementia (carers, families and those living with the condition) and will take its shape from your input, so please do spread the word and join us next month.

I'm told there will be cake!!
