Time with Teepa

Deb Bunt

As I have mentioned, in my previous incarnation (before Peter - was there such a time!), I worked in a profession where networking was an essential component to achieve success.  Despite my frustration at my job I always maintained that there was nothing wrong with my ability to network but I did rather lack, shall we say, the success element of these endeavours.

However, those finely tuned skills (note: always read these write ups with the understanding they are sprinkled liberally with a healthy dose of cynicism and self-deprecation) have really paid off.  Perhaps, after all, it was not failure but simply deferred success.  The links we have forged with the US have been so rewarding: obviously there was the recognition by those good people at AlzAuthors and how this propelled” Slow Puncture” and Peter’s story into America.  From there, we have linked with many others, including alzheimersspeaks.com (Lori La Bey) Fading Memories Podcast (Jennifer Fink), All Home Care Matters: Dementia & Home Care Podcasts (Lance A Slatton) and the latest, Teepa Snow Positive Approach to Care.  This interaction was facilitated by another American, Nikki Jardin – she of Mirador Magazine Mirador Magazine

Once Nikki had recovered from the 100 miles in a day cycle challenge (see previous story), she put in a word with Teepa’s crew and a date was arranged for Teepa to interview us and within days of that, the finished item was posted across Teepa’s social media networks.

The following day I received two emails from people whom I did not know but who had taken the trouble to seek me out, with the following comments:

“One of my favorite guest speakers you ever had on ! how inspiring I learned so much from this talk.  I truly admire this couple. Thank you so much for sharing.”

“Having just finished watching your FaceTime with Teepa online I am getting in touch to say what a delight it was to hear you three chatting.  It is evident that the mutual respect and understanding that you and Peter both have for one another shines through and is heart-warming to witness.  The more Peter spoke the more remarkable and exceptional his story became.”

I need add no more apart from to offer up a heartfelt thanks to the London authority who invested their time and money in training me to network and to say that I'm sorry that you were not the beneficiaries...

Peter is pleased to be a patron of For Brian CIC -  an evolving concept, co-produced by its directors in collaboration with its beneficiaries living with dementia. The company aims to empower people living with dementia and their families to design support that meets their individual needs, providing agency in challenging circumstances. Cycling plays a huge part in their existence.
